For the Frieze, NY 2019 show Peter Blum Gallery will present a focused installation featuring works by two painters and two sculptors from the gallery roster: Alex Katz, Enoc Perez, Joyce J. Scott, and Su-Mei Tse. The booth will feature a range of materials and formats, asserting the curatorial mission of the gallery to cultivate diverse artistic viewpoints from around the world.
Alex Katz (b. 1927 USA) is one of the preeminent American figurative painters of the 20th/21st Century. We will present a new large-scale portrait painting which highlights Katz’s dynamic use of color and distillation of form.
Enoc Perez (b. 1957 Puerto Rico) incorporates imagery of modern architecture onto the surface of his paintings through the use of stenciling, layering, and numerous transfer techniques. We will present a set of three paintings that incorporate the grid patterns sourced from modern buildings.
Joyce J. Scott (b. 1948 Baltimore) is a sculptor, quilter, and installation artist. Scott was named a MacArthur Fellow in 2016 and is best known for her figurative sculptures that address issues of racism, sexism, and violence. We will present two sculptures that combine Murano glass with her intricate beadwork.
Su-Mei Tse (b. 1973 Luxembourg) fuses sculpture, sound, video, architecture, and photography with haiku-like simplicity. She received the Golden Lion at the 2003 Venice Biennial for the best National participation. We will present an installation of limestone and chrome steel sculptures titled “Morning Dew”, 2017.
