SUPERFLEX

How do you represent the recent failure of global capitalism in visual terms? In a cinematic tour de force, the Danish collective Superflex replicated a McDonald's restaurant, down to the food on the tables, flooded it with water, and filmed the results. It's not hard to read the upended statue of Ronald and the submerged French fries as part of an allegory -- not just about economic catastrophe but about the social blight of Hurricane Katrina as well. In the four-part video "The Financial Crisis (Session I-IV)," a hypnotist intones, "Now you can only watch the system collapsing and there is nothing you can do. In a little while, when I snap my fingers, you will wake up feeling comfortable, feeling fresh, feeling happy." If only. Through March 20. (Blum, 526 W. 29th St. 212-244-6055)
